FAQs about Injections

For any type of injection, Botox, Juvéderm, or even a vaccine you received from your doctor, there are no guarantees about bruising or swelling. Also, just because your body reacted to aesthetic treatment one way after a treatment, it does not mean it will react that way for every treatment. Our bodies are complex and can react very differently from one day to the next due to many variables.

While there is no way to predict the future, a good guideline to gauge whether or not you will bruise, or for how long your bruising will last, is to think about how your body normally responds to anything that typically causes bruising. If you typically do not bruise, then you might respond better than someone who bruises easily.

Although, bruising with Botox is possible, it is less likely than bruising with dermal filler. Bruising with filler is a bit more common. To be on the safe side, especially if you typically bruise in other situations, plan your first Juvéderm treatment for a possible two weeks of “downtime”. While you will be able to use cosmetics to conceal much of the bruising so you can confidently go to school or work, if you have an important event, don’t schedule treatment less than two weeks before. Typically, the first few days after filler injections is when most patients experience bruising and/or swelling. After a few days, the bruising and swelling typically begin to subside.

However, here’s the good news! There are things you can do before and after aesthetic treatment to help you recover at your body’s best rate? Pre- and post-treatment information is be provided when you fill out your pre-appointment forms.

Every patient has a different pain tolerance; no two patients are exactly alike. We believe in taking our time, providing a thorough explanation, and using a gentle touch. We try to make our patients as comfortable as possible during each and every treatment. Botox is nicknamed the “lunch time procedure” because patients are able to have treatment during lunch and return to work after their treatment. Believe it or not, like the patients before you, you too will survive! 🙂

Botox is a purified protein. Botox is the only FDA-approved prescription medicine that temporarily improves the appearance of moderate-to-severe forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet at the corner of the eyes. Botox is for use in adults.

Injecting Botox is one of the most common nonsurgical procedures performed. Botox is commonly used for wrinkle reduction and prevention, facial slimming,
hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in the underarms and palms), and softening the appearance of platysmal neck bands (vertical banding that becomes more visible as we age).

In addition to its very popular cosmetic uses, Botox is used medically to treat:

  • migraines – severe throbbing headaches often associated with nausea or light sensitivity
  • blepharospasm – involuntary closing of the eyelids
  • strabismus – lack of eye alignment, cross-eyed or wall-eyed
  • overactive bladder – urinary leakage, urgency, and frequency
  • spasticity – continuous contraction of muscles, often associated with other syndromes and conditions such as multiple sclerosis (MS).

At Veronica Injects, we use Botox for cosmetic treatments. We do not offer injections for medical conditions.

The day you receive Botox treatment, you usually will not see any visible results. The initial onset of Botox results takes a few days. “Full effect” develops in about two weeks.

On average, the results from Botox treatment last about three months. Length of effectiveness depends on your body’s metabolism, treatment location, and the amount of Botox used.

Juvéderm is a dermal filler composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance most chemically similar to a sugar molecule.

Our bodies naturally produce hyaluronic acid, also referred to as HA, within the dermis which is the thick layer of living tissue just under the visible layer of skin. HA aids in the hydration of the dermis. As we age, our bodies produce less HA than previously and that can make our skin appear dehydrated.

Juvéderm is a hydrophilic substance. This means it loves water and has the ability to attract water. This HA attribute helps stimulate hydration.

Juvéderm treatment has a wide range of effectiveness. Not only because of the individuality of each patient’s body, but also, Juvéderm has a collection of HA fillers each with different properties which give them unique capabilities and varying durations of effectiveness.

For example, Juvéderm’s filler called Voluma is FDA approved to last up to two years, while another Juvéderm filler, Vollure, is FDA approved to last up to eighteen months. During your consultation. we will discuss your concerns and goals and design a game plan together. We customize an aesthetic treatment plan specifically for you.

We customize each Botox and/or Juvéderm treatment to the needs and desired outcomes of each patient. It is impossible, and not fair to the patient, for a provider to say “how much” someone will need without seeing them in person and discussing their cosmetic goals.

No aesthetic nurse, doctor, or the patient knows how much Botox or dermal filler is needed until a thorough aesthetic treatment plan is discussed. We do not expect you to know what you need. That’s our job!

The puzzle of what cosmetic treatments and how much product you need is best solved together. During your consultation, we will work together to devise a treatment plan to best suit your aesthetic goals.

We ask our patients not to wear makeup to appointments. We also ask that patients not apply makeup post injections either. This is to reduce the chance of a biofilm infection – or a colony of bacteria being introduced into the injection sites.

Infection prevention is key to safety and comfort. We pride ourselves in the due diligence we use to prep prior to treatment, but we need your help, too. Makeup is full of bacteria and it is simply not worth the risks involved. Remember, your safety is our first concern!

Surprise! You will go back to looking like you did before your treatment. Once the injected Botox has metabolized in a few months’ time, you will look like you did pre-treatment.

Likewise, once your dermal filler has metabolized, you will return to the way you looked before treatment. Your body will naturally metabolize these products. None of the products we use are permanent.

Yes, there are some more permanent choices available on the market, but we do not use them at Veronica Injects. Why? Many safety concerns remain with permanent cosmetic products. For us, your safety always comes first! For example, remember that your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid which is very similar to the HA fillers we use. One unique characteristic of HA fillers is their ability to be dissolved, or reversed, by an enzyme called hyaluronidase. More permanent filler products are not made of hyalurionic acid and cannot be easily dissolved. They potentially have to be surgically removed.

FAQs about SkinPen

Microneedling treatment allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism. By creating micro-“injuries” in the skin, it triggers new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result of collagen induction therapy is smoother, firmer, and younger-looking skin.

Microneedling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a sterile needle head. The procedure is normally completed within 45-60 minutes, depending on the required treatment and anatomical site.

Microneedling is minimally-invasive with very little downtime. Bellus Medical raises the bar with SkinPen. This device is the only U.S.-engineered and manufactured microneedling pen on the market.

SkinPen not only delivers superior reliability, safety, and performance, but also provides peace of mind knowing it is a product you can trust.

Patient safety and comfort are the top priorities at Veronica Injects. Through rigorous training, we know how to properly prepare your skin for microneedling treatment to minimize discomfort. Most patients report feeling pressure but the numbing cream along with precise treatment does not cause pain.

Following treatment, some report a warm, glowy feeling for a day or two and some report an itching feeling. We can help you reduce the effects that some people experience.
